Kyle Mann Chapel – February 29, 2024
By Ava Rogers
On February 29, 2024, Kyle Mann, editor-in-chief of notable Christian satirical news site The Babylon Bee, came to speak to us about how he started working at The Babylon Bee and how comedy has the power to spread truth.
The Babylon Bee was originally formed with a group of friends poking fun at some amusing aspects of not just the church, but also controversial secular affairs. From headlines such as “Holy Spirit Unable To Move Through Congregation As Fog Machine Breaks” to “The Babylon Bee’s Man Of The Year Is Rachel Levine,” The Babylon Bee has taken a stance to call out the many lies of our culture through the use of comedy. For example, Kyle explains how in his own life, God used his creativity for Him in order to make a change in the world, stating, “Comedy has this power to communicate truth.”
Kyle begins his message by stating that as Christians, we are not fighting against anything physical, but rather that our enemy is the devil himself. As expressed in Ecclesiastes 6, we are called to “put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” With that, we have many powers that are lined up against us to bring us down and hurt us. This becomes even more evident when Christians, or anyone for that matter, stand for their beliefs. Combating and defying the poisonous ideas of our culture and the sneers of the devil requires taking a stand that is joyful and full of laughter to diminish darkness. Kyle continues by saying, “Depending on God’s plan for your life, He is going to grow you through tough times, and what I want is for your faith to be rooted enough in the hope that you have beyond this life that you can stand through those times and you can trust that our Sovereign God has a plan for your life.” With that, feeling depressed, worried, or angry is okay, as long as we realize that God is our hope. The Bible always provides us with an answer to the “doom and gloom” around us, stating, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
To conclude, Kyle reminds us that especially as Christians, we are fully equipped to make a stand for our beliefs.
