March 11 Update

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We continue to closely monitor the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and will provide updates as necessary. There continue to be no known cases of coronavirus in San Diego County.

We understand that many parents and families are concerned about the potential spread of the virus in our schools and have asked at what point we would consider closing our site. Our charge under state law is to stay open as long as our site remains safe for students and staff. State and federal law empower the local public health officer with broad authority to take all actions needed to control the spread of an infectious disease, including orders to close schools. In our county, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency has this authority and is the lead agency in managing the county’s response to this threat. We have been assured by public health officials that San Diego school closures are unwarranted at this time and could create unintended consequences that would hurt their efforts to protect our community. We will remain in close contact with public health officials throughout the duration of this threat and comply with all of their guidance.

Communities thrive when we all stay committed to each other’s well-being. We must never stigmatize anyone in our community based on national origin and unfortunately this is happening in our District. Students from other countries have not necessarily been exposed to or have COVID-19. Someone who has a cough or a fever does not necessarily have COVID-19.

Our focus continues to be on prevention and preparation. We have an inventory of needed supplies, our staff is being trained on cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, and our teachers are watching for symptoms and providing guidance to families daily. You can support us by following these standard precautionary measures:

Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use an alcohol based hand sanitizer when soap is not available;
Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth and avoid close contact with people who are sick;
Stay home when sick and call your school to report fever and respiratory symptoms;
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, throw the tissue in the trash, and clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional, and continue to receive an annual flu shot.
We also want to share that on March 4, local health officials updated their guidelines for when a student should remain home. If your child has respiratory symptoms and fever of >100 F / >37.8 C (lowered from 100.4 F), they should remain home from school and other activities until they have no fever for 24 hours, without fever medication. In addition, if your child has severe productive coughs (i.e., spewing respiratory droplets) that are not typical for them, they should stay home.

Christian Unified School District will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates as necessary. Your student’s safety is our primary concern and all decisions will be made with that in mind. If you have questions about your site, please contact your school’s front office. Family Statement of Faith

  • The Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs.  The Bible itself, as the inspired, inerrant, plenary, and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.  For purposes of CUSSD’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, Shadow Mountain Community Church is CUSSD’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
  • We believe that there is one God eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, and His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through the shedding of His blood, in His bodily resurrection on the third day, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and In His personal pre-millennial return to rapture His Church before the Tribulation and His glorious appearing to set up His Millennial Kingdom.   
  • We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith, apart from works by the merit of the shed blood of Christ, and that the born-again believer is eternally secure in Christ.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the individual priesthood of the believer.
  • We believe life begins at conception.
  • We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning; the uniting of one biological man and one biological woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25.)  We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a biological man and a biological woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4.)  We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
  • We believe that the Scripture dictates standards of sexual behavior. The unique roles of the male and female are clearly defined in Scripture. Any promiscuity, homosexuality, gender identity issues or other deviations from Biblical principles is a sin that is offensive to God (Matt. 5:18-19; I Cor. 6: 9-10, 19-20; Eph. 5:3-5; 1 Thess. 4:3-8).
