Course Description:

1st semester is a continuation of Chinese I

Second Semester:

his second semester of the second year of Chinese is a continuation of the first three semesters of language study.  The student will continue to sharpen listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through activities that are based on pedagogically proven methods of foreign language instruction.  Throughout the five units of material (The House, Shopping, Entertainment, More Free Time and Trips), students learn to express themselves using an ever-increasing vocabulary, present-tense verbs, past-tense verbs, articles, and adjectives.  Grammar is introduced and practiced in innovative and interesting ways with a variety of learning styles in mind.

Culture is sprinkled throughout the course in an attempt to engage the learner focus on the Chinese-speaking world and their culture, people, geographical locations and histories.

The course is aligned to the national Foreign Language standards.

Second Semester Course Objectives:

Throughout this semester, the student will

  • talk about their homes and their responsibilities at home.
  • talk about places to shop and vocabulary related to shopping and buying things one might need.
  • talk about free time activities that might be of interest to them and that are popular in the Chinese speaking world.
  • talk about how to plan a trip in Chinese.
  • talk about how they get to different places and explore various modes of transportation available in China.
  • learn the past tense in Chinese.
  • review throughout the semester the present tense forms in Chinese.
  • review constructions taught in the first three semesters of Chinese.
  • learn Chinese history.
