Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II
Credits: 2
Course Description:
This is a serious course for serious students. The kind of students who want to develop the skills needed for advancing to calculus. Although many things in life involve relatively simple systems, there are many complex and nonlinear processes that reveal a more complete picture of our world. That is what you’ll find here.
Students, as mathematic analysts, will investigate advanced mathematics concepts and use them to solve problems encountered in operating national parks. Throughout the course, students will be exploring the mathematical design of God’s creation and how their lives should reflect His glory. The core components of the course include the study of functions and the development of skills necessary for future success in calculus. In addition, a detailed examination of trigonometry and elements of analytical geometry are incorporated in the curriculum. You’ll also acquire the confidence to think like a mathematician, finding logic and order in a complex world.
Course Objectives:
The course content will cover the following concepts
- Living a life fully devoted to God’s service
- Polynomial, rational, exponential, inverse, logarithmic, and circular functions
- Sequences and series
- Vectors
- Conic sections
- Polar coordinate systems
- Mathematical induction
- Matrix algebra
- God’s power and mathematical design as revealed in creation
This course covers the material that appears on the College Board® CLEP® exams for College Algebra and Trigonometry, but this course is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the College Board® and should not be considered as a prep course for the CLEP® exams.
